A Great Day

A big day at Silcock Park yesterday and there was high drama on an off the pitch.
We welcomed Colne and Nelson Rugby Club's 1st & 2nd teams. The 2's won 41-0 to put them up to 3rd in the table with two games to play. The game was notable for it was the last home game for [so he claims....!] for veteran Geoff Williamson. A relic from CRUFC's first ever game in 1977! Well in Geoff.
A great game played in good spirit and nicely refereed by Mr Lawrence.
The 1st XV game was a fiercely contested match from start to finish. Colne, quite rightly, had come to spoil the party and avenge their opening day of the season defeat. The first half was one of a massive shift in defence for the maroons; the interval score of 3-5 reflected it. The pivotal point was on about the hour mark. Clitheroe had gained some momentum and were awarded an kickable penalty in range of the posts. They spurned this for running, but it came to nought. Another one a short time later was reversed for back chat and the pendulum swung back to Colne who finished the game slightly stronger. Absolute fair play to Colne who were the better team on the day.
As always Mr Beveridge was on top form keeping control effortlessly.
But credit to the Clitheroe squad for a tremendous season who go up as champions to ADM Counties Lancs & Cheshire Div 3 next term.
Both prior and after the game the Clubhouse was full. The Life Members and our sponsors Watson Ramsbottom Solicitors were treated to an excellent lunch courtesy Flavours Cookery School .
Thank you!
We will draw a line under the England game. The two game out on Silcock Park served up more excitement!
Thanks to Colne & Nelson RFC - hope your injured lads mend soon.
Two more league games for the 2nds and then Cup action on 1st April for both teams.
