New Captains, new season, new direction

Clitheroe RUFC is excited to announce that Nathon Burns and Nick Roberts will be Co-Captains of the club’s 1st XV for the 2022/23 season.
This is the first time in the club’s history that Co-Captains have led the 1st XV. Both players, although new to the club, and in Nathon’s case, new to rugby, have proved that they have the will, commitment, passion, and desire, on and off the pitch, to help drive the club forward.
Nathon has been a full-time Judo athlete for the last 17 years and has competed all over the world from Grand Prix’s to World championships and is a level 5 International Judo coach. Although he has been a rugby lover for years, it has only been in the last two years that he has taken up the game. It is safe to say that he has made a big impression in that short time.
Nick, in contrast, has been playing rugby for nearly 20 years, starting out at Altrincham Kersal in South Manchester from a young age. He played school Rugby for Lymm High, where he went on to captain the 2nd team. After a few quiet seasons during his time at University, Nick played a couple of seasons for Warrington RUFC. Last August, he moved to the Ribble Valley and fortunately for us, Clitheroe RUFC were his club of choice. Like Nathon, Nick has undoubtedly made a big impact on the club, on and off the field. Both players have been instrumental in the drive to raise standards on and off the pitch.
Looking forward to the new season, Nathon and Nick are both excited about the opportunity to work closely with each other in the Co-captaincy role and are relishing the challenge that lies ahead for the team. Both captains are targeting promotion at the end of the season. They are convinced that with the current squad, which is continuing to grow in terms of quality and size, and under the leadership of the new coach, Mark Walton, it is definitely achievable.
