Clitheroe hosted Eccles, a team flying high in the league and on this occasion, too slick for the home side to test on the scoreboard. However, as the game wore on this plucky Clitheroe side made the most of their opportunities and scored the last couple of tries to give a modicum of shine to the result.
Rob Lee was the first on the scoreboard with a well taken try on the left flank following good setup work initially from the forwards, then from Stanley, Aspin, Wilkinson and Duck. The second try was a show of brute strength from Lee’s 2nd row partner Barraclough. After being repelled after an initial drive, Barraclough found a pirouette from somewhere and evaded some desperate tackles to score in the corner. Finally, Wilkinson finished the scoring with a good team try.
Man of the match was given to full back Mattie Mason who, along with back three pals Pimbley and Duck did well overall to keep out the forceful opposition. Elsewhere, every player stood up to the counted with Calton-Whitaker the stand out forward in terms of his determined runs and stout defence.
