A fine Season

Chris Barraclough reports on the Colts.....

Clitheroe Junior Colts (sponsored by Sales Geek!) lost out on a place in the final of the Halbro Colts Junior Plate, after losing a tense battle at Trafford MV. 34-22.
Missing their starting 8, 9 and 10 could have dampened the lads’ spirits and it took the team and the coaches the opening quarter to work out how to plug the gaps and factor in two loan players from TMV. By which time we’d slipped to a 14-0 deficit, which we never really recovered from.
Tireless in defence, with Willis and Greenwood causing havoc in the ruck, whilst Best J. and Holden et al. crashed in ball after ball.
The scrum was once again solid, not only competing but beating the heavier Trafford pack at EVERY scrum. Technique to be proud of.
These young men never give up and they gradually grew into the game. 22-5 down at the break with a scintillating chip and chase from Fletcher at 9,10&12!!
Second half saw greater composure on the ball and a return of the battling spirit. Having conceded again early in the second half, two tries from man of the match Ethan Best at centre, who’s Tuilagi-esque direct running caused the Trafford defence trouble throughout, and a last try of the season from Barraclough, showing a clean pair of heels hauled Clitheroe back into the match.
This team has enjoyed a decade of rugby together, with most having played at least 6 years. They are a great group of young men who enjoy their rugby, win, lose or draw!
They are a credit to and the future of Clitheroe Rugby. I am sure we will see many of them in maroon and gold in the coming years.
