A somewhat depleted Rossendale arrived at a ‘back on form’ Clitheroe for what could easily have been serious one way traffic.
But in true Littlemoor style, everyone stepped up and both sides had the pleasure of enjoying some free flowing rugby in the sun.
It was soon clear that even with the Maroon and Gold’s assisting Rossendale by providing them with some extra manpower, the fast pacey backs of the Mighty 2’s were just overwhelming.
The final score of 73-22 shows Clitheroe had the edge but more importantly it says more about the grit shown by Rossendale who when other teams would have called off still made the trip to Littlemoor.
Taking nothing away from Clitheroe this was a game of Rugby and Bicky and Sharples (M) both showed their class by scoring 3 tries each.
A welcome return from injury saw one of ours ‘Boys in Blue’ Dave Morris back at peak form and kicking a very notable 10 from 10 and a try to boot!
His partner in fighting crime, Jerry Sturgess was also his darting self and at 9 was a real menace to the resilient though oft tested Rossendale.
With the Team sheet reading more like a beano adventure, mention must also go to the excellent performances and tries scored by Doc and Giz.
A further try for Thornber (Nobs) to add to his growing tally and the game drew to a close.
Front row replacements were an issue on Saturday due to injuries to the big men, so thanks go to Jake Proctor who had a very uncomfortable baptism of fire at tight and lose.
Also, a real find was the realisation that the somewhat square scrum half/ centre, Dave Watson was an excellent loose head - so problem solved for next time.
Special thanks must also go to the players who at various times stepped up and played for Rossendale.
These guys made it a game but more importantly showed that Clitheroe is a stand up, grass roots family club, blessed with true sportsmen who play for the love of Rugby and for the benefit of ‘the game’.
This coming Saturdays fixture will prove a completely different affair, as the marauding Eccles men will surely push CRUFC to immediately raise their game or face the consequences.
