Clitheroe Cavaliers achieved a double over local rivals in a riveting game at Holt House.
Captain Windy Rawstron was delighted to welcome Adrian Oldroyd, James Dickinson and Mick Rowley back into the squad after a period of abstinance.
The game started brightly with the Cavaliers looking to spread the ball out wide through the deft hands of fly half Rowley. A discretion at the ruck resulted in the referee awarding a penalty which Keiron Keough duly slotted to give the visitors a 3 point lead.
Colne were powerfull in the scrum and competed well at the breakdown. Piercy dominated proceedings at line out winning his own ball and snaffling much of the oppositions. Back rowers Harry Thompson and Linden Ross were beginning to gel and interacted well around the fringes. Ross in his man of the match performance got two tries in the first half one of which started on the half way line.
Colne at this point began to have words with the referee as a result one player was yellow carded.
Discipline didn't get any better for the home team in the second half and Clitheroe exploited this well. The Cavaliers Captain changed afew positions bringing Oldroyd into the fray and placing himself in the second row. This steadied the ship nicely in the front row and with Aaron Atkinson at loose head prop they began to bully Colne somewhat. One of the Colne players during this half took exception to the referee and received a red card for his constructive comments. This gave the Cavaliers renewed vigour and after weeks of trying Leeban Clemmey got his just reward by scoring a try. A lovely pass from Ross on the wing gave Clemmey space to go around his man and score under the posts. Ross insists he didn't want to score a third try so he didn't have to buy a jug!!
A really good game resulted in the first win in 5 weeks. Hopefully with 3 games to go the Cavaliers can continue in the same vain.
