As with the 1st team, the 2nd team Captain, John Procter was without a few key men for what is always a tough trip over to Colne & Nelson. That said, he had a good mix of youth and experience at hand with the likes of Caunce joining up in the backline with new recruit Robinson, playing only his second game for the club and the youngest of the Slinger clan, playing one of a handful of appearances before travelling back to Australia.
Clitheroe dominated the first half in terms of both possession and territory and two Robinson penalties took the visitor to a 6 point lead. The hosts came to life after half time when they added some extra fire power from the mixed bench and scored and unconverted try to take them to within one point. With Colne & Nelson pressing in the dying moments of the game, a penalty was awarded to Clitheroe but some backchat led to the penalty being reversed and the home side being given the chance to snatch the win. Luckily for Clitheroe the resulting kick flew wide and the precious points went the way of the visitors. This moves Pundy's side up a couple of places and stands them in good stead for their home tie in the Raging Bull Plate next Saturday against BAe Warton, a team lying immediately above them in the League 5 North table having won only one more game. This will certainly be an intriguing tie so why not come down to the club at Littlemoor and watch the entertainment on the field following by some beverages and a recorded England vs New Zealand tie on the big screen immediately afterwards.
