As we enter 2021, there's a little light shining...

Hello to all our members, supporters and followers. We wish you all a very happy new year and for ourselves, a bit of rugby please, of course, when the time is right.

Well that time isn't clearly now and with our current Tier 4 status we are not able to play nor train at senior rugby level. Whilst it's incredibly frustrating we need to do what's best for our club, its members, and the community in general, by minimising any activity that might promote COVID infection spread.

We are however still able to have any Under 18s train at grassroots level, as outlined by the RFU. With the younger end of the under 18s junior section as a whole comes a greater risk, as parents attend and larger groups of people may form, especially as sessions start and end and as such, we've taken the decision to stop all rugby from every group other than for our current U16s group, at least whilst we remain under Tier 4 restrictions. We're taken the decision to allow the U16s to continue to train for a number reasons, listed as follows. Firstly, the Under 16s players form a small and close knit group, invariably travel to and from the club themselves (minimising the number of people actually at the club at the same time) and follow the strict controls we have in place regarding hygiene and only come to training if symptom-free. Furthermore, the coaches know what they need to do to ensure we're covid-safe with this group regarding implementing controls as laid down by the RFU and club in relation to max group sizes levels of interaction.

Naturally, we will continue to monitor the situation as things change and if anyone has any concerns over this then please feel free to contact the club by calling 07962 099935 or emailing here

There is some recent news worth sharing for those interested to learn when senior rugby might return. We were informed yesterday by Lancashire RFU that they'd put back the scheduled start of the round-robin fixtures initially planned to start on 16th Jan. Instead, a few games for those clubs wanting to play are due to start on Sat 6th March. It is hoped that by then we are in a lower Tier than we are now and that the infection rates are much lower. The increased time to a possible return to competitive rugby obviously gives us more chance to be ready to play should we feel it's the right thing to do. We will continue to talk with our playing members and monitor the situation closely to ensure we do the right thing by the club, its members and the wider community, something we've worked towards right through the pandemic.

Please feel free to contact us and up to date information can always be found on our Facebook site and Twitter and Instagram feeds.
